DA HUMIHIRIT NG P1-B SUPPLEMENTAL BUDGET PARA MATIYAK ANG FOOD SECURITY SA GITNA NG COVID-19

NAGRE-REQUEST ang Department of Agriculture ng P1 bilyong supplemental budget para pondohan ang mga programang may kaugnayan sa pagtiyak ng food security at pag stable ng mga presyo sa gitna ng paglaganap ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) sa bansa.

“We respectfully request for a supplemental budget in the amount of P1 Billion Pesos to support the Department of Agriculture’s programs in the next two (2) months in connection with Covid-19, particularly in ensuring food supply availability and price stabilization,” sabi ni Agriculture Secretary William Dar sa kanyang liham kay Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

“While the DA support systems are already in place to ensure food supply availability, we need additional funds to sustain their implementation, especially in areas where the enhanced community quarantine is strictly enforced,” paliwanag pa nito.

Ayon kay Dar, gagamitin ang karagdagang halaga upang matiyak ang tuloy-tuloy na production, processing, packaging at delivery ng basic commodities sa major consumption center, partikular sa Metro Manila.

Sakaling maaprubahan, sinabi ng kalihim na gagamitin ang ikatlong bahagi ng pondo o P325 milyon sa pag-upgrade ng “Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita” project sa pamamagitan ng pagtatayo ng mas maraming outlets sa pakikipagtulungan ng local government units.

Gagamitin din aniya ang supplemental budget para sa promotion ng urban agriculture sa Metro manila (P250 million); production support sa pamamagitan ng seeds at inputs (P200 million); suporta para sa agriculture workers (P150 million); at monitoring ng suggested retail price (P75 million). /lsr
